Tropical storm warnings issued for Los Angeles, San Diego as Hilary churns toward Southern California

October 04, 2023

The storm is expected to weaken to a tropical storm. Residents of Southern California are bracing for what could be a once-in-a-lifetime tropical storm landfall. The last time a tropical storm made landfall in Southern California was 84 years ago, in 1939, near Long Beach. Friday morning, the National Weather Service in San Diego issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the first time in the local office's history. All three Major League Baseball teams in Southern California (the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers and Anaheim Angels) are home this weekend.
