Jason Hickel: The 2023 Arne Næss Professor at the University of Oslo

The Centre for Development and the Environment is proud to announce that the 2023 Arne Næss Professor is Jason Hickel. Professor Hickel is a visionary thinker, writer and academic who is internationally known for his ground-breaking work on global inequality, imperialism and ecological economics. Hickel is an economic anthropologist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and Professor at the Institute for Environmental Science and Technology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In addition to his scholarly pursuits, he writes regularly for The Guardian, Foreign Policy, Al Jazeera, Current Affairs and other outlets. The 2023 Arne Næss Symposium featuring Jason Hickel, is planned for 13 September 2023, at Georg Sverdrup Hus on Blindern campus, at 18.00.

Professor Hickel is a visionary thinker, writer and academic who is internationally known for his ground-breaking work on global inequality, imperialism and ecological economics.  His most recent book is Less is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World (Penguin Books 2021).  

Hickel is an economic anthropologist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and Professor at the Institute for Environmental Science and Technology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In addition to his scholarly pursuits, he writes regularly for The Guardian,  Foreign Policy, Al Jazeera, Current Affairs and other outlets. 

The 2023 Arne Næss Symposium featuring Jason Hickel, is planned for 13 September 2023, at Georg Sverdrup Hus on Blindern campus, at 18.00.
