Council acknowledged Reconciliation Week (27 May-3 June 2023), and the University's participation in several activities and events. He will retire from Council and as Chair of the Finance Committee on 31 July 2023, and be succeeded on Council by a member to be appointed by the Minister for Education. Council approved the University's Modern Slavery Statement for 2022 for publication and presentation to the Federal Government. Council News  

Meeting 3/2023  

2 June 2023

Council met in person for the third meeting of 2023 in the RC Mills Room, Chancelry, ANU Campus. 

Council acknowledged Reconciliation Week (27 May-3 June 2023), and the University's participation in several activities and events.

Council Membership
Council acknowledged the dedicated service of Dr Doug McTaggart for the past 11 years. He will retire from Council and as Chair of the Finance Committee on 31 July 2023, and be succeeded on Council by a member to be appointed by the Minister for Education. 

Vice-Chancellor succession
The work of the Council-established Selection Committee is continuing, including with high levels of engagement among the ANU community throughout the process.

Vice-Chancellor's Report
Council considered the Vice-Chancellor's report which concerned the University's strategic engagement with the Federal Government, student enrolments for Semester 2 2023, the Federal Budget announced on 9 May, and planning underway to respond to the recent staff engagement survey.           

Digital Master Plan (DMP) - Progress Report
Council received an update about the DMP project.  This is one of the University's most significant business transformation program, designed to deliver a strong digital foundation, a personalised experience and a fully connected online environment for staff and students.   

Modern Slavery Statement 2022
ANU recognises its responsibility to respect human rights and to play its part in eradicating modern slavery.  It is never acceptable, in any form.

Council approved the University's Modern Slavery Statement for 2022 for publication and presentation to the Federal Government.

Next Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) - Update
The Council received an update on the progress being made to develop our next RAP.  The University is working with Reconciliation Australia to finalise the document for 2023-24.    

Other Matters
Council considered several other significant issues, concerning: the progress made by the new Student Safety and Wellbeing Committee; Staff WHS; Financial Reports, and summaries of each meeting held by Council Committees and the Academic Board in May.
