The Leuven Centre for Legal Theory and Empirical Jurisprudence brings together a wide range of theoretical perspectives and research programmes on law and legal practice, including legal philosophy, legisprudence, law and conflict analysis, empirical legal studies and law & economics. Most of the research conducted at the Centre is interdisciplinary and strives to be conversant with theoretical advances in philosophy, psychology, behavioural economics, statistics, machine learning, data mining and computer-based text analysis. Website unit

  • The succesful candidate is expected to complete a PhD project in the field of legal theory and/or empirical legal studies. Research question, design and methodology are to be determined in agreement between the selected candidate and supervisor.
  • The selected candidate will support the research activities conducted at the Centre for Legal Theory and Empirical Jurisprudence, including the organization of workshops, seminars and conferences, the submission of project proposals and the preparation of publications.
  • The successful candidate is expected to support teaching activities at both undergraduate and post-graduate level.
  • Profile
  • The candidate should have a master degree in law, political science, economics, statististics or computer science.
  • Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
  • Team spirit and the motivation to work in an international and interdisciplinary environment are essential.
