Offer Descriptioni3s – Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (hereinafter i3) is opening a call to award a grant for the development of R&D activities by Master's or Integrated Master's, or Bachelor's enrolled in non-academic degree courses integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution within the project ”, financed by private funds through Program Gilead GÉNESE 2022.

Scientific Area : Public Health.
Project Title: “ First Serological, Molecular and Sociodemographic Characterization of exposure to Leishmania spp. in the HIV-infected population in the North of Portugal”.
Workplans :
Evaluation of the level of antibodies against different antigens of Leishmania , such as rK28 and Soluble Promastigote Soluble Antigen (SPLA), and the non-related antigens “Soluble Escherichia coli Antigens” (SECA) in a cohort of 700 HIV-infected patients by ELISA.
Application of the rapid immunochromatographic test rK39, recombinant protein rK39 is derived from a specific antigen produced by the Leishmania donovani complex, in a cohort of 700 patients infected with HIV.
Direct parasitological diagnosis will be performed by quantitative PCR (qPCR) targeting the Cytochrome b (cytb) gene of the kinetoplast and aiming at determining the parasitemia.

Being enrolled in a Master's degree or Integrated Master's, or Bachelor's enrolled in non-academic degree courses integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution at the time of the start of the contract.
Applicants must have a degree in biomedical sciences or related areas.
Preferential:
The candidate should have experience in the following areas:
The candidate must demonstrate an interest in Public Health and to be able to process experimental data.
Legislation and other applicable regulations : Research Fellowship Holder Statute enacted by Law no. 40/2004 of August 18th, as amended; FCT Research Grants Regulation, approved by way of Regulation nr. 950/2019, published in the II Series of DR of December 16th, 2019; i3S Research Grants Regulation.
Place : The research activities will be hosted at i3S, under the scientific coordination of Professor Anabela Cordeiro da Siva and Doctor Ana Isabel Pinto.
Length time: The duration of the fellowship is 5 months. The expected starting date is november 2023, upon availability of the financed funds.
Monthly maintenance stipend: €930,98 according to the values table of FCT, at Portugal (https: // www. fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de- Valores-SMM2023.pdf). The payments will be made by bank transference.
Research grants may also include other components, as the voluntary social insurance, under the terms of the Research Fellowship Holder Statute, article 10.
Evaluation Criteria : The selection will be made by curriculum evaluation (70%), considering the previous experience in the points described in the Admission Requirements, motivation letter (10%) and interview (20%). An evaluation will be made (on a scale of 1 to 100), followed by a ranking of candidates based on the score obtained in the criteria defined above. Up to three candidates who have joint curriculum and motivation letter assessment equal or higher than 80% are selected for the interview.
