Offer Description

This position is part of the research project ASTRAL, managed by the LAUM and funded by the French Government and the Safran Group. Common acoustic liners for aeronautics are based on a honeycomb structure covered with a perforated plate. This technology struggles to meet the requirements of the next generation of aircraft engines in terms of weight and performance. To develop novel types of acoustic liners, this post‐doc aims to design and validate acoustic panels made of small‐scale electro‐acoustic transducers. The LAUM has significant experience in designing and manufacturing such transducers. More specifically, this work will be a continuation of the PhD thesis of Th. Abily (see references below). The main objectives are to improve the design and manufacturing of these transducers, as well as demonstrate their potential for aero‐acoustic applications.

Assigned activities and expected results

The successful applicant will be responsible for • Developing and testing different implementations of the improved transducers in an impedance tube. • Validating the proposed transducers under grazing flow conditions. • Simulating the behaviour of these acoustic treatments using computational tools like COMSOL. • Publishing in international peer‐reviewed journals and participating in international conferences. • Collaborating with other partners in the ASTRAL project and contributing to meetings and reports.

Required knowledge and skills include acoustics and/or transducers (electrodynamic and piezoelectric). More specifically, it is recommended to have a good command of the research literature on electro‐acoustic transducers. Some experience with COMSOL modelling would be beneficial. Computational skills should include Python programming for data analysis. We look for highly motivated applicants with excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
