About the position:

Applications are invited for a PhD student position in the research group of prof. Mgr. Richard Štefl, PhD to join the RNA4T project - RNA for Therapy, reg. number CZ.02.01.01/00/22008/0004575,” in Programme Johannes Amos Comenius (Czech Republic - The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, co- funded by the European Union.

Richard Štefl, holder of an ERC Consolidator grant, has long experience in leading research teams and is a leading expert in the field of protein-RNA interactions and structural biology.

RNA4T is a collaborative project with the Weizmann Institute, Israel; the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, EU; the University of Edinburgh, UK, and other relevant partners.

The researcher will have the opportunity to collaborate in Activity 1.1.1 Design and synthesis of modified NTP building blocks and development of in vitro transcription methods for enzymatic synthesis of modified RNAs to fulfil Objective1.1 Development of methodology for synthesis of modified RNA. In addition, he will participate in activity 2.2.4 Biochemical and structural (cryo-EM) analysis of Dicer and Argonaute proteins with or without different substrates to meet objective 2. which is Analysis and targeted manipulation of medically relevant RNP complexes.

Requirements:

Master of Science degree

Strong expertise in at least one of the following specializations: molecular biology/biochemistry/organic chemistry/bioinformatics

Good oral and written communication skills in English

Creative practical lab experience

Independence, accountability, and reliability

Good communication and organizational skills

Additional information:

Start date: initial start date is May 1st 2024 or upon agreement

Job type: full–time

Duration: initial full-time fixed-term contract for one year, with the possibility of extension up to five years
