The German Heart Center of the Free State of Bavaria associated to the Technical University of Munich is a clinic with international reputation and a state of the art technical and medical equipment. The Research Group Translational Cardiovascular Genomics (Principal Investigator: Thorsten Kessler, MD) at the Department of Cardiology is seeking a PhD student (m/f/d) The research group of Dr. Thorsten Kessler is looking to recruit a highly motivated PhD student to join a dynamic international research team at the German Heart Center Munich, Department of Cardiology. Our research focusses on the role of genetic risk factors in cardiovascular diseases and vascular biology. We use state-of-the-art molecular biology, OMICs, and transgenic mouse model approaches to gain novel mechanistic insights. Ultimately, our goal is to develop unprecedented therapeutic concepts to prevent and treat atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction. We are part of the collaborative research center SFB 1123 “Atherosclerosis - Mechanisms and Networks of Novel Therapeutic Targets” and the Munich Heart Alliance within the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK). Our research is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG: SFB 1123, project B2; research grant KE 2116/4-1), the German Center for Cardiovascular Research and the Corona Foundation (Corona-Stiftung im Stifterverband), and the European Research Council (ERC Starting Grant MATRICARD).

Profile/Requirements: - Excellent command of molecular biology and interest in transgenic animal experiments - Interest in the application of single cell sequencing and deep visual proteomics technologies - Interest in cardiovascular research - Accuracy and reliability, initiative, organisational skills and a high sense of responsibility - Very good written and spoken English - High level of communication skills - Ability to work in a team
