PhD stipend in Safety Footwear Biomechanics

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Department of Health Science and Technology one or more PhD stipends are available within the doctoral programme Health and Exercise Science. The stipends are open for appointment from 1 May 2023.

Job description

In this PhD study you will study the mechanics and biomechanics of safety shoes. This should lead to the design and test of safety shoes that will minimize risk hazards such as slips, trips and falls at work. This PhD study is part of a larger project related to the design of mechanical tests, biomechanical studies in a laboratory environment and a clinical study conducted at a Danish company. During the project the PhD student is expected to work with: mechanical tests and biomechanical studies assessing safety footwear characteristics and recovery strategies after experimentally induced trips.

Prospective applicants for this PhD proposal should have the following qualifications:

  • M.Sc. degree in Sport Technology or similar.
  • Experience in programming, at least in MATLAB, SolidWorks and SPSS.
  • Knowledge on footwear biomechanics including gait analysis, control of gait including (slips, trips and falls), regulations of safety shoes, and design/test of mechanical characteristics and human experiments is required.
  • A creative mindset and curiosity to research and develop new solutions in collaboration with an industrial partner and researcher from associated universities.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School in Medicine, Biomedical Science and Technology in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.

    Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.
