Do you want to take part in shaping the future?
PhD Research Fellow in Physics, Measurement ScienceAre you interested in working with renewable energy and challenges on hydrogen as an energy carrier? We seek a motivated and skilled PhD Research Fellow to do research on measurement of loss and quality degradation of hydrogen in the transport chain from production to use.
The position is for a fixed-term period of 3 years and is related to a larger research project “Reliable Metering for the Hydrogen Supply Chain to enable a Sustainable Hydrogen Economy (HyMe)”, financed by the Norwegian Research Council and industry partners.
About the project/work tasks:The research project HyMe is led by NORCE Norwegian Research Centre AS and is a collaboration with UiB, Justervesenet, Equinor, Gassco, TotalEnergies, and Shell Norway. The project is related to measurement systems for energy, transport, and low emissions. Accurate and traceable methods of amount and quality of hydrogen in the delivery chain from production to use are essential to enable an energy sector within hydrogen. The goal of the project is to find cost effective measurement methods with traceable accuracy for transport of hydrogen at a large scale.
The PhD research tasks will be on loss and quality degradation in the supply chain. This work is important for both safety and cost reduction for transport of hydrogen. You must work systematically with identification of places along the supply chain where there is higher risk for loss and quality degradation. Based on this knowledge, you will develop methods for indirect estimate of loss from mass balance equations included calculations of uncertainty. Further work includes evaluation of sensor technologies for quality measurements that can be implemented at fiscal metering stations for hydrogen (custody transfer).
As a PhD fellow in HyMe you will collaborate closely with researchers in NORCE and UiB, you will receive end user input from industry partners and Justervesenet (Norwegian Metrology Service) and you will work together with Master students in measurement science. You will be a part of the research group in Measurement Science at the Department of Physics and Technology and the Norwegian Research School on Hydrogen and Hydrogen-based Fuels (HySchool), hosted by UiB.
Qualifications and personal qualities:Personal and relational qualities will be emphasized. Ambitions and potential will also count when evaluating the candidates.
The University of Bergen is subjected to the regulation for export control system. The regulation will be applied in the processing of the applications.
About the PhD position:About the PhD Research Fellow The duration of the PhD Research Fellow is 3 years.
The employment period may be reduced if you have previously been employed in a qualifying post (e.g. research fellow, research assistant).
About the research training As a PhD Research Fellow, you must participate in an approved educational programme for a PhD degree within a period of 3 years. The deadline for applying for admission to the PhD programme at The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is 2 months after you start your position or after the start of the research project that will lead to the PhD degree. It is a condition that you satisfy the enrolment requirements for the PhD programme at the University of Bergen.
We can offer:The application and appendices with certified translations into English or a Scandinavian language must be uploaded at Jobbnorge.
General information:For further details about the position, please contact Camilla Sætre, associate professor in ocean technology, Department of Physics and Technology, UiB: [email protected] Tlf. +47 55 58 83 08.
