PhD position in psychiatric neuroimaging

60 %

Our lab is interested in the variability in psychotic disorders as reflected in brain circuits and behavior. We design and implement multimodal paradigms (e.g. combined fMRI and speech production) and use methods such as machine learning, multilevel analyses and computational modeling. These paradigms can also be used to decompose performance into interpretable components of cognitive and perceptual processing of cognitive tests that are used routinely in clinical diagnosis. We are using a variety of psychological and neuroscientific methods, such as multi-modal imaging (fMRI, structural MRI, DTI), natural language processing, and behavioral modeling.

Your responsibilities

The successful candidate will work on research in large scale multimodal projects in the field of psychosis. Main responsibilities include the analysis of fMRI and behavioral data, dissemination of study results in peer-reviewed journals, and the supervision of master students. The candidate will take part in ongoing projects and initiate new research within the team of Prof. Philipp Homan, who is also a Neuroscience Center Zurich (ZNZ) group leader.

Your profile
  • Masters degree in a field related to cognitive neuroscience (cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, psychology, medicine, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering or computer science)
  • Strong interest in multimodal imaging analyses
  • Programming skills (Matlab, R, Python, Stan)
  • Strong interest and experience in statistics and data management
  • Research background in the design of neurophysiological experiments
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills
  • Previous experience in developing analysis methods for fMRI is desirable
  • What we offer
  • To work in a diverse team of highly motivated young researchers who are passionate about psychiatry, neuroscience and computer science
  • A competitive salary and generous social benefits
  • Generous support for professional travel and research needs
  • An inspiring work environment within the Department of Psychiatry and the University of Zurich and part of the Neuroscience Center Zurich (ZNZ)
