PhD position in Multiscale Imaging Omics in Chronic Lung Diseases @ the

Lung Precision Medicine Program of University of Bern and Bern University Hospital (Inselspital)

The Project

Chronic lung diseases, including fibrosing interstitial lung diseases are a leading cause of death worldwide with ever increasing prevalence due to the ageing society. The translational and interdisciplinary research project will focus on the application of spatial omics data, digital histopathology and multiscale computed tomography-based radiomics to dissect the spatial disease heterogeneity and advance precision medicine in chronic lung diseases. The successful candidate will take on a key role in applying imaging and image analysis to non-invasively assess cell state changes and pathway activation on the molecular level (=virtual tissue biopsies) and relate this to patient outcome and drug response.

Your Profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate with a Masters' degree in life sciences or related fields with an interest in (bio-)medical imaging and spatial omics techniques. The candidate should be proactive, have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be comfortable working in a team of international scientists as well as independently. Good knowledge of English (oral and written) is expected. Candidates with prior experience in (bio-)medical imaging and/or (spatial, single-cell) omics techniques are especially encouraged to apply. Familiarity with bioinformatic data analysis is an advantage.

We offer

The Lung Precision Medicine Program at the Department for BioMedical Research (DBMR), University of Bern, and the Bern University Hospital (Inselspital), Switzerland offers an outstanding, collaborative environment of fundamental, translational, and clinical scientists and access to state-of- the-art technology and excellent core facilities. The successful candidate will be part of the Graduate School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Bern. Salary will be according to the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation. This position is offered for a period of 3 years with option for extension for 1 year. The starting date is 01.03.2023 or after agreement.
