About the research centre or Inria department

The Inria University of Lille centre, created in 2008, employs 360 people including 305 scientists in 15 research teams. Recognised for its strong involvement in the socio-economic development of the Hauts-De-France region, the Inria University of Lille centre pursues a close relationship with large companies and SMEs. By promoting synergies between researchers and industrialists, Inria participates in the transfer of skills and expertise in digital technologies and provides access to the best European and international research for the benefit of innovation and companies, particularly in the region.

For more than 10 years, the Inria University of Lille centre has been located at the heart of Lille's university and scientific ecosystem, as well as at the heart of Frenchtech, with a technology showroom based on Avenue de Bretagne in Lille, on the EuraTechnologies site of economic excellence dedicated to information and communication technologies (ICT).

Context

The PhD thesis enters the framework of a longstanding collaboration of the RAPSODI project team with colleague of the CEA and ANDRA on the mathematical and numerical modeling of iron corrosion.

The goal of this thesis is the mathematical study (well-posedness, asymptotic behavior) of a simplified model in order to build a better understanding of a more complex model recently developed by our team. Numerical simulations of the simplified model are also expected. The mid-term goal is to transpose the obtained results to the full model.

Assignment

Assignments : With the help of Clément Cancès and Claire Chainais-Hillairet, the recruited person will be taken to study mathematically a model with moving interfaces inspired from a more complex model for iron corrosion. The work essentially consists in mathematical contributions (with a numerical part) at the interface between mathematics, electrochemistry and material sciences.

For a better knowledge of the proposed research subject : A detailed description with bibliography of the PhD topic is available at : https: // chercheurs.lille.inria.fr/ccances/Documents/PhD-cances- chainaisen.pdf.

Collaboration : The recruited person will be in connection with mathematician colleagues from the Inria project team RAPSODI, and more generally with member of the ANEDP research team of the Paul Painlevé Laboratory (University of Lille and CNRS).
