We are offering a PhD fellowship in experimental immunology with a focus on NK cell biology commencing 1 August 2023 or soon thereafter.
Our group and research The PhD fellow will be placed in the Laboratory of Immunology at the Section of Experimental Animal Models. Our group investigates the regulation of different leukocytes during infection and inflammation and we are particularly interested in identifying novel regulatory pathways used by NK cells, macrophages and T-cells.
Project description
NK cells are regulated by a combination of positive and negative-acting receptors, which give them the ability to target cancer and infected cells. In the current project we will identify and characterize novel NK regulatory pathways and examine their involvement in activation of blood-derived NK cells and NK cells derived from induced Pluripotent Stem (iPS) cells.
Our goal is to improve treatment of cancer through allogenic transplantation of iPS cell-derived NK cells, genetically modified to a hyperactive state to ensure high potency targeting of cancer cells. With the unlimited expansion potential, CAR NK-based cancer treatment is a promising therapeutic strategy, however, improved efficiencies of NK cell production, suitable activation, and resistance to immune suppression needs to be achieved.

Terms of employment The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 3 years. The start date is 1 August 2023 or soon thereafter.
The employment is conditioned upon the applicant's successful enrolment as a PhD student at the Graduate School at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. This requires submission and acceptance of an application for the specific project formulated by the applicant.
The PhD study must be completed in accordance with The Ministerial Order on the PhD programme (2013) and the Faculty's rules on achieving the degree.
Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary starts at approximately 28,896 DKK/Roughly 3,877 EUR (April 2023 level) plus pension.
