Job description A four-year PhD fellowship within the field of biomolecular nanoscale engineering with applications in medicinal chemistry is available at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The PhD fellowship is available from 1 September 2023 or shortly thereafter.

The PhD fellowship is embedded in the newly established NERD programme on DNA- encoded Chemistry funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and involves research groups from SDU, Aarhus University (AU) and University of Copenhagen (KU). The PhD fellowship is at the Nucleic Acid Center, SDU.

The fellowship is available in the group of Associate Professor Stefan Vogel where the research will be focused on DNA-programmed and –encoded chemical and enzymatic reactions encapsulated within lipid nanoparticles.

The project is highly multidisciplinary, involving diverse aspects of chemistry and biotechnology.

We seek a highly motivated and skilled person to work on biomolecular nanoscale engineering. The successful candidate should have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry with documented research experience related to modified oligonucleotides and/or liposomes/peptides.

The position is available to candidates with a BA degree in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or a related discipline. The candidates should be proficient in English and possess good interpersonal skills.

Application, salary etc. Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three (students who have completed their MSc) or four years (students who have not yet completed their MSc). Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three- year period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.

The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
