Ernest Oppenheimer Studentship (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for an Ernest Oppenheimer Studentship to be held at Cambridge University in Colloid Science, as broadly interpreted within the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering. The Studentship is to support research projects directly leading to a PhD.

The application should be made by the designated research supervisor, on behalf of the named candidate. Normally, only one application per supervisor will be considered. The application should include:

(a) A brief description of the proposed research project, noting its relevance to colloid science, the starting date and the period of the award sought.

(b) The CV of the candidate (including research interests and academic performance to date as well as position in class as x/y) and two references, at least one of which should be external to Cambridge.

(c) A completed copy of the cover sheet form which accompanies this notice.

Please send this to [email protected] by 9 January 2024.

The award provides a grant at the EPSRC standard rate + £2000 per annum, and the University Composition Fee at the home rate. Overseas students will be expected to be able to cover the difference between the fees for overseas students and the fees for home students, whether through another award or by other means. The Studentship also attracts a contribution towards consumables and travel costs of £7k per annum. Special cases for an increase in this figure may be considered at the discretion of the Committee of Management.

The length of the Studentship is 3.5 years; the Studentship is to be taken up on 1 October 2024. The period of the maintenance grant is 42 months, and the contributions for consumables and for the Composition Fee are 36 months (three years).

The applicant will need to successfully apply to the PhD programme, which can be done via the website: https: // www. postgraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/application- process/how-do-i-apply.

For this year, the Committee expects to have one or two Studentships at its disposal. It hopes to make a decision by the middle of February 2024.
