We are now looking for a new Ph.D. student linked to an existing research project on sustainable destination development with a focus on mobility and civic engagement in the SITE region (Sälen, Idre, Trysil and Engerdal). The area has several major ski destinations within its borders and the need to develop and implement sustainable transportation solutions for guests, visitors, locals, and employees is great. The PhD student is expected to contribute to research at the interface between civic engagement, civil society, and sustainable mobility.

As a doctoral student, you will be affiliated with the Centre for Tourism Research (CeTLeR), an interdisciplinary research environment with a particular focus on issues related to the development of destinations and tourism in rural regions and small towns, including a focus on sustainable mobility. Within the adjacent subject of political science, research is conducted in theoretical fields such as civic engagement, civil society, political socialization, and political institutions.

The position and education The position is located at Dalarna University, School of Culture and Society in Borlänge. The doctoral program is located at Marie Cederschiöld University, Stockholm, and is conducted in the subject area civil society within the field of The Individual in the Welfare Society. The program consists of courses and an independent research project that you present in a licentiate thesis. The employment may be extended for a further two to three years, in which case it is intended to conclude with a doctoral thesis.

The employment at Dalarna University may include teaching, administration, and research other than your thesis work with a maximum of 20 percent of full time. In this case, a corresponding amount of time is added to the period of study and funding.

Doctoral students are assigned a principal supervisor and one or two assistant supervisors. To be employed as a doctoral student, the candidate must be admitted or have already been admitted to a doctoral program at Marie Cederschiöld University.

Eligibility and selection To be admitted to the doctoral program in the field of The Individual in the Welfare Society, basic and special entry requirements, and the ability to otherwise assimilate the education are required. Basic eligibility requires: 1. Completion of a degree at second-cycle level. 2. Completion of course requirements totaling at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits are at the second-cycle level, or 3. Acquisition of essentially equivalent knowledge through other means.

Specific entry requirements include completion of course requirements totaling at least 30 credits in subjects relevant to the respective third-cycle subject at the second-cycle level, of which at least 15 credits consist of an independent project at the second-cycle level or equivalent knowledge.

Successful doctoral students need to collaborate well with others, be self- motivated, take initiative, and work independently towards long-term goals. Proficiency in English, both in speech and writing, is also required.

Meritorious qualifications include: - Experience in research projects. - Experience teaching at the university level. - Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral Swedish language skills.

Employment The PhD position is a full-time employment (fixed term) in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (chapter 5). Salary stipulated by local collective agreement. Dalarna University is situated in two cities. The successful candidate with be primarily placed in Borlänge.
