The Institute of Solid State Physics, light & matter Group of Prof. Dr. Ilja Gerhardt, invites applications for the position of a Doctoral Researcher / PhD Student (m/f/d) in Quantum Cryptography (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 50 %) starting as soon as possible. The position is limited to 3 years.

The light & matter group in Hannover deals with high brightness single photon sources, atomic vapors, and quantum optics. These tools are used for fundamental Science, precision sensing and microscopy. This allows for novel concepts in nano-science and spectroscopy. We combine fundamental research with quantum technologies.

Your tasks

  • Setup of a free-space optical link for single photons and their detection
  • Implementation of multiple quantum optical and classical network connections
  • Assembly of the “quantum telephone”
  • Participation in teaching activities
  • Your profile

  • Finished university science degree in physics or a related field
  • Extraordinary motivation and the will to dive into a variety of interdisciplinary topics
  • Eager to learn new things and apply critical thought to electronics, programming and quite some quantum stuff
  • (Ideally) Experience in atomic spectroscopy, cryptography and with single photons
