COMPETITION OPENING DATE SEPTEMBER 19, 2023

The selected candidate will join the research team working on a SONATA 18 project entitled “Modified (oligo)nucleotides for photo-controlled manipulation of mRNA” (2022/47/D/ST4/00386), financed by the National Science Centre Poland. The aim of this project is to develop molecular tools that allow for spatio-temporal manipulation of messenger RNA molecules using light.

The position is intended for a person who obtained a doctoral degree in the year of employment in the project or in the period of 7 years before January 1 of the year of employment in the project and who meets the following conditions:

• the principal investigator was not a supervisor or assistant supervisor of his/her doctoral dissertation,

• obtained a doctoral degree in an entity other than the entity where employment in this position is planned, or completed at least 10-month, continuous and documented post-doctoral internship in an entity other than the entity implementing the project and in a country other than the country of obtaining the doctoral degree;

• during the period of receiving this remuneration, he/she will not receive any other remuneration from the funds allocated as direct costs from research projects financed under NCN calls;

• during the period of receiving this remuneration, he/she will not receive remuneration from another employer under an employment contract, including from an employer based outside Poland;

• during the period of receiving this remuneration, he/she will not receive retirement benefits from the social security system

The candidates have to conform to the conditions stated in art. 113 of Higher Education Law dated 20.07.2018 (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland 2023, item 742 with subsequent amendments).

Skills/Qualifications

As an assistant professor you will be involved in biophysical and biochemical characterization of modified mRNA molecules in in vitro experiments and in model cell lines.

Key responsibilities:

Enzymatic synthesis and purification of modified RNAs, expression and purification of RNA-binding proteins, identification of photo-induced reactions products, preparation of the samples for proteomic analysis, characterization of mRNA conjugates in model cell lines. Reporting of the results. Preparation of publication manuscripts.

Specific Requirements

  • PhD degree in biophysics, molecular biology, organic chemistry, medical chemistry, or related field
  • Ability to fluently communicate in English and interest in the biology of nucleotides and mRNA
  • Desirable previous experience in protein and/or RNA biology
  • List of publication related to the subject of the project will be an important factor in candidate evaluation
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work in a team
