NYU today announced it has purchased 3 MetroTech Center from JP Morgan Chase. The 10-story, 350,000 GSF building is located adjacent to the heart of NYU’s academic presence in Brooklyn, including the Tandon School of Engineering and 370 Jay St., which NYU secured in 2012 through the City’s Applied Sciences Initiative. JPMorgan Chase employees moved to 4 MetroTech Center more than two years ago.
Beginning with the merger with the former Polytechnic University in 2014, NYU has established a vibrant and growing academic presence in Downtown Brooklyn that emphasizes engineering, technology, new media, gaming, and recorded music—areas of study that fit closely with Brooklyn’s dynamic start-up, tech, and arts sectors—and also the expansion of NYU’s program of providing high-quality low-cost dental care through its College of Dentistry. NYU’s presence in Brooklyn also includes plans for a new state-of-the-art virtual film production facility in Industry City created through a major gift honoring NYC filmmaker Martin Scorcese.

The University will promptly undertake a review to determine which specific academic and other uses will be best served by the new building. With expected renovations, NYU anticipates the building will open for University use during the academic year 2025-2026.
