Johns Hopkins online engineering programs again ranked among nation's best

The Whiting School's online information technology programs maintained their No. 2 for Best Online Master's in Computer Information Technology Programs. 6U.S. News' Best Online Engineering Programs includes a review of online and part-time programs, including applied biomedical engineering, applied physics, electrical and computer engineering, engineering management, mechanical engineering, and space systems engineering. The Best Online Information Technology Programs category includes a review of the online and part-time programs in artificial intelligence, computer science, cybersecurity, data science, and information systems engineering. U.S. News ranks the nation's best online graduate programs in seven disciplines, as well as the best online bachelor's degree programs.

Johns Hopkins Engineering's online graduate degree programs continue to be among the country's best, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings.

The Whiting School's Engineering for Professionals program occupies the No. 9 spot overall, jumping three spaces from last year's No. 12. The Whiting School's online information technology programs maintained their No. 2 spot.

This year, for the first time, the Whiting School's online graduate program was included among rankings for veterans, debuting at No. 8 overall. It also was listed at No. 2 for Best Online Master's in Computer Information Technology Programs.

In specialty area rankings, the school's programs ranked as follows:

  • Engineering management moved up two spaces to No. 2
  • Electrical and computer engineering maintained its spot at No. 4
  • Industrial/systems engineering maintained its status at No. 4, tied with Georgia Tech
  • Mechanical engineering maintained its No. 6 spot
  • Civil engineering dropped from last year's No. 3 to No. 6

U.S. News' Best Online Engineering Programs includes a review of online and part-time programs, including applied biomedical engineering, applied physics, electrical and computer engineering, engineering management, mechanical engineering, and space systems engineering. The Best Online Information Technology Programs category includes a review of the online and part-time programs in artificial intelligence, computer science, cybersecurity, data science, and information systems engineering.

U.S. News ranks the nation's best online graduate programs in seven disciplines, as well as the best online bachelor's degree programs. Rankings are determined by five weighted criteria: student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, peer reputation, and admissions selectivity.

More than 5,000 students across the world are enrolled in the Whiting School's online and part-time programs. The programs' courses and curriculum are created by instructional designers, who customize them for online delivery and maximum student engagement and learning.

These rankings exemplify the school's steadfast commitment to meeting the education needs of the technical and engineering workforces through top-quality programs, according to Dan Horn, associate dean for the Whiting School of Engineering's Engineering for Professionals.

"One key to our leadership in online learning since 2001 is our dedication to offering a curriculum that reflects and responds to the constantly changing landscape," said Horn. "Though the volume and variety of courses we offer have steadily increased, one thing stays the same: our commitment to ensuring that working professionals emerge prepared for the technological and scientific challenges they will meet in their careers."
