UNSW is set to deepen its regional ties through a new program with Indonesia’s major electricity provider.
UNSW Sydney has inked a partnership with Indonesia’s government-owned Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) that will see students sponsored to study at UNSW under the company’s talent development programme.
Following a small pilot in 2023, the partners signed an MoU this week which will result in a manifold increase in the number of PLN-sponsored students studying with UNSW.
UNSW Pro Vice-Chancellor, International, Lisa Zamberlan, said she was delighted to move forward with the Indonesian energy provider.
“This partnership formally recognises our close ties with PLN and pro-actively addresses their future human resource and strategic needs. Signing this MoU re-affirms UNSW’s commitment to our regional neighbours and signals UNSW’s intention to meaningful partnerships across the ASEAN region in support of shared goals.”
The partnership comes as the Australian government looks to foster greater relations across the ASEAN region with the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy 2024.
The PLN delegation, led by Yusuf Didi Setiarto, included senior executives of the Human Capital Management and Talent Development divisions of the organisation alongside delegates from Institut Teknologi PLN.
PLN is an Indonesian government-owned corporation that generates the majority of electrical power across Indonesia. PLN’s mission is to provide electricity for the public interest in an adequate quantity and quality and to foster profits and carry out the assignment of the government in the electricity sector to support development by applying the principles of a limited liability company.
The PLN talent development programme aims to fulfil the future human resource needs of the organisation by sending quality students overseas to complete further training and education.
