Council NewsMeeting 1/2023 and Council Retreat9 and 10 February 2023Council met in person for the first meeting of 2023 in the Physics Department Board Room, ANU Campus. Council will establish a Selection Committee to oversee the search and consultation process, and expects to make an appointment within the next 12 months. Meeting 1/2023 and Council Retreat  

9 and 10 February 2023


Council met in person for the first meeting of 2023 in the Physics Department Board Room, ANU Campus.   
 

Vice-Chancellorship 

Council considered the Vice-Chancellor's report, and his intention to step down from the role at the end of the year. Council will establish a Selection Committee to oversee the search and consultation process, and expects to make an appointment within the next 12 months.        

College of Health and Medicine - CHM Transform Project  

Council received an update about the Transform project, a 10-year strategy to enhance ANU distinctiveness, competitiveness, productivity and scale in biomedical, clinical, psychological and population health sciences.  The project, now in its second year, also impacts government policy and programs as well as the medical technology and pharmaceutical sector. 

Ethics Committees - Annual Reports 2022
Council discussed the Animal Ethics Committee, the Human Research Ethics Committee, and the Recombinant DNA Monitoring Committee reports of their work over the last year.

Other Matters

Council considered several other significant issues concerning Student Wellbeing, Staff WHS, the Investment Office, Australian Research Council (ARC) grants, the internal audit program, and the ANU Corporate Plan for 2023.

Following the meeting, Council continued with its annual retreat, where it discussed in detail the following:

1.    The National University - living up to our mission

2.    University Rankings 

3.    First Nations - Portfolio Strategy 

4.    Council Self-Assessment 2022. 

During the retreat, Council members were delighted to attend the opening of the University's newest student accommodation village: Yukeembruk

Next Meeting 

Council next meets on Friday 31 March 2023.
