New Council Committee - Student Safety and Wellbeing (Membership)Council appointed three existing Council members to the new Committee, with a chair and external experts expected to also be appointed soon. 75th Anniversary - Closing EventFollowing the meeting, Council members joined the Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, and the ANU community to celebrate the University's 75th Anniversary closing ceremony.

Meeting 4/2022

Council met in person for the fourth meeting of 2022.

Minister for Education - The Hon Jason Clare MP
Minister Clare joined Council for the pre-council dinner on 28 July and discussed the new government's higher education priorities.

Council Membership
Council welcomed Professor Sarah Pearson for a four-year term, from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2026. 

Council thanked and farewelled Professor Kate Reynolds, Professor Asmi Wood and Professor Juliana Ng as their two-year terms end on 29 September 2022. Council elections for these positions have been prepared and will be conducted in the coming weeks.

Vice-Chancellor's Report
Council considered the Vice-Chancellor's report, including updates about senior leadership positions, managing COVID-19 on-campus, and recent government engagement activities.   

Research Strategy
Council discussed the initial proposal for the ANU Research Strategy - an essential part of the Strategic Plan (ANU 2025). 

Council looks forward to receiving the final proposal in December 2022 following consultation with the University community.    

New Council Committee - Student Safety and Wellbeing (Membership)
Council appointed three existing Council members to the new Committee, with a chair and external experts expected to also be appointed soon.    

Council also invited ANU students to join the Committee via an Expressions of Interest process. 

Other Matters
Council considered other significant matters, including delivery of the ANU Medical Clinic, the progress of the College of Health and Medicine Transform Project, and reports from Council Committees and the Academic Board.

75th Anniversary - Closing Event
Following the meeting, Council members joined the Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, and the ANU community to celebrate the University's 75th Anniversary closing ceremony.

Council next meets on Friday 7 October 2022.
