In the Department of Chemistry at TU Darmstadt a part-time position is available in the group of Prof. Dr. Katja Schmitz, Biological Chemistry, for a

Research Assistant (all genders) – 50 %

in a temporary employment contract for an initial period of 3 years.

The project is part of the LOEWE-project TRABITA, that has the goal of investigating transient binding pockets in proteins for the development of novel drugs.

The research topic of the offered position is Peptides and Peptide Analogs as Stabilizing Binding Partners for Proteins.

To improve known binding peptides encoded libraries will be screened. For this purpose, the sequence of a linear molecule in the core of the synthesis particle will encode the structure of a branched or cyclic peptide or peptide mimetic at the particle's surface. The sequence of the linear peptides will be elucidated by mass spectrometry. The developed methodology will be used for the screening of focused libraries for the binding to target proteins from the TRABITA-consortium and our own research lab. Affinity, specificity and biological activity of the improved peptides and peptide mimetics will be determined during the project also in cooperation with partners from the TRABITA-consortium.

You have completed a bachelor's and master's degree in chemistry. Profound background knowledge and practical experience in the field of synthesis of peptide and peptide mimetics and their modification and characterization are prerequisite for the timely completion of this project. experience, especially in supervising practical lab courses, is desirable.

Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply.
