Research Assistant/ Doctoral Researcher (all genders)

The position is available from the next possible starting date initially limited until 30.06.2026.

Your Tasks: You will perform ex situ and in situ spectroscopic characterization of iron based catalysts for selective oxidation reactions that are performed in a temperature window of 200 – 400 °C by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy. A related reactor is available. You will need to perform the organization of in situ campains as well as to conduct such measurements and the related data analysis. Experiments will be run in our Mössbauer laboratory or at the synchrotron.

On the basis of first results, the reactor should be further developed to enable the coupling with other techniques (e. g. Raman spectroscopy, coop.)

Your Profile: You studied chemistry, physics, materials science or a related discipline and completed with a masters degree and feel comfortable to work on an interdisciplinary topic and methodological aspects. Pre-requested are fundamental knowledge in the field of spectroscopy and heterogeneous catalysis.

Ideally, you are already familiar with 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, in situ/operando spectroscopy and/or experiments at synchrotron beamlines.

You have very good communication skills in German and English, both in written and oral form. Moreover, you have good skills in time managements and travelling (beamtimes at synchrotrons, conferences).

The CRC 1487 “Iron, upgraded!” addresses a fundamental research question: How does the chemical environment of iron affect its intrinsic properties? Based on a fundamental understanding of this question, the research consortium aims to upgrade iron towards new functionalities and fields of application where it can replace critical raw materials such as platinum or niobium. If all requirements are fulfilled, the opportunity for a doctoral dissertation (Promotion) will be given. Within the CRC and also from TU Darmstadt there are various offers in terms of further education, and the employee will receive a public transportation ticket for the state Hesse (within the applicableupdated version).
