About the research centre or Inria department

Located at the heart of the main national research and higher education cluster, member of the Université Paris Saclay, a major actor in the French Investments for the Future Programme (Idex, LabEx, IRT, Equipex) and partner of the main establishments present on the plateau, the centre is particularly active in three major areas: data and knowledge; safety, security and reliability; modelling, simulation and optimisation (with priority given to energy).

The main goal of this position is to harness the latest advances on machine learning-based neuroimage processing technologies to improve function- preserving brain tumour resection. Identifying eloquent brain regions is fundamental to performing tumour resection while preserving a maximum level of cognitive function.

The engineering position will work at the intersection of Inria and the AP-HP Parisian hospital conglomerate. The goal of the engineer will be to design, test, and improve processing pipelines that are performed during pre and post- surgically and thus facilitate research performed on such images. In addition, the engineer will work with large-scale human datasets in order to perform and facilitate tasks of transfer learning from human neuroimaging datasets to medical research.

The main tools on which this work will be based are within the python neuroimaigng ecosystem. NiLearn, DiPy, Nipype


Assignments : With the help of D. Wassermann, PI of the ANR grant MICBrainPres, the recruited person will be taken to drive and develop pipelines for conditioning and analysing neuroimaging data. This will entail driving collaborations between cognitive neuroscientist and computer scientists and conduct independent research in evidence-driven neuroscience.

Main activities

Examples of activities:

  • Analyse the requirements of our cognitive and medical neuroscientific partners, specifically in the area of cortical specialization and systems neuroscience.
  • Propose original neuroscience research which can be formalised into a logical protocol to imporve its reproducibility
  • Collaborate with a team of PhD students, Post-docs, and masters students in developing methodological resarch in neuroscience applications.

    Technical skills and level required : Analysis of neuroimaging data, knowledge in neuroanatomy,

    Desired skills: Machine Learning, discrete mathematics, programming language theory, data analytics, databases. Python programming and version control through Git/Github will be appreciated

    Languages : Good English conversational and written skills

    Relational skills : good Interpersonal Abilities and Problem- Solving/Reasoning/Creativity
