The Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. By performing fundamental and applied research, PSI works on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations.
The Group of Catalysis for Biofuels (GCB) at EPFL is looking for a
PhD student in chemical reaction engineering (W/M) – 100%
We target the production of carbon-neutral fuels from biomass, carbon dioxide or other sources. In an Ambizione project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and led by Dr. Emanuele Moioli, we will develop a new methodology for the optimization of chemical processes aimed at the production of synthetic fuels from unconventional feedstock. Synthetic fuels are regarded as the most promising option to decrease the CO2 impact of hard-to-decarbonize sectors such as mobility and chemical industry. Your task will be to develop new models for the description and optimization of multi-stage fixed-bed chemical reactors and fluidized-bed reactors and to validate the methodology with relevant experimental tests. The position will involve close collaboration between EPFL and PSI, taking advantage of the world-class experimental facilities present at both institutions. The position will be preferentially based at PSI.
Your tasks:Start date : 1 August 2023, anticipation possible upon agreement
Your application should include Curriculum Vitae, research statement outlining your interests and how they relate to the GCB's research activities and copies of diploma and grades.
If you have questions concerning the open position please contact Dr. Emanuele Moioli, email: [email protected]
