  • Main tasks - Assembling and annotating symbiont genomes - Specific analysis of genetic elements involved in interactions with hosts (e.g. pathogenicity islands, biosynthetic pathways) or other bacteria (e.g. two-component systems...). - Reconstruction of ancestral genomes and pan-genomes. - Analysis of genome dynamics (horizontal transfers, pseudogenisation and gene loss). Secondary tasks - Assembly of tick mitogenomes - Phylogenetic analyses of mitogenomes

    This recruitment is part of the MICROM project, funded by the ANR (Coord. O. Duron, MIVEGEC, Montpellier; partners LBBE and EBI (Poitiers)). MICROM aims to analyse the evolutionary dynamics of symbiotic interactions, using as a model the nutritional symbiosis between ticks and intracellular bacteria. While these symbioses have long been considered extremely stable, they are very dynamic in ticks, with multiple replacements between bacteria of the genera Coxiella and Francisella. This system will be used to identify the factors that contribute to these symbiont replacements using genomics, transcriptomics, in vivo and in vitro imaging approaches. The person recruited will participate in the genomic part of the project and will aim to assemble, annotate and analyse a collection of tick symbiont genomes, in particular of the genera Coxiella and Francisella, for which sequences are already available.

    The contract will take place within the Laboratoire de Biométrie et Biologie Evolutive (LBBE, UMR CNRS 5558), but will involve frequent contacts and meetings with the other partners of the MICROM project. The LBBE is a vibrant lab characterised by its ability to integrate ecology and evolutionary issues with methodological developments, particularly in genomics and phylogeny. This project will benefit from recent developments in reconciliation methods and their application to symbiotic interactions. It will also benefit from the laboratory's excellent IT infrastructure.

    Eligibility criteria

    - Extensive skills in bioinformatics and bacterial genomics. - Knowledge of microbial evolutionary ecology in a symbiotic context. - Good knowledge of genome annotation tools. - Linux/Unix work environment and use of computing clusters. - Writing scientific papers and presenting at international conferences.
