The Institute of Soil Science and Land Evaluation, Department of Soil Biology (Prof. Ellen Kandeler, Dr. Sven Marhan), is looking for a PhD student to work on a subproject of the EU joint project TITAN "Direct biogas conversion to green hydrogen and carbon materials by a scalable microwave heated catalytic reactor"; project duration 1.3.2023-28.2.2026. Salary is according to E13 TV-L (65% of regular working hours). The position is limited to three years. The direct catalytic conversion of biogas to green hydrogen produces nanocarbon. A potential market for this carbon is its use as a soil amendment material. The aim of the subproject is to investigate the effect of the nanocarbon on 1) soil microorganisms (abundance and function), 2) macrofauna (earthworms), and 3) the degradation of the nanocarbon in the soil.
Your responsibilities: - Planning, organization and performing laboratory studies - Evaluation and analysis of the results - Preparation of project reports - Publication of results in international scientific journals - Planning and organization of project meetings Your qualifications: - Completed master in agricultural or environmental sciences, biology or a related subject - Knowledge of scientific working, demonstrated by an above-average master thesis - Laboratory experience - Very good written and spoken German and English skills required - Initiative, flexibility and ability to work in a team Advantageous would be - experience in soil biological analysis methods and laboratory work - experience in presentation and publishing of scientific results
