    Development of low-cost catalysts for the catalytic pyrolysis of PS.

    The Institut Chevreul (CNRS FR 2638), through the UMET and UCCS laboratories, is developing activities in the field of recycling. The circular economy is at the heart of the activities of the UCCS, which focuses its activities on three main themes: energy, environment and sustainable development. Within the UMET, the research theme of "Life Cycle Analysis and Recycling" is one of the research axes of the Polymer Systems Engineering team. In addition, within the framework of the future CPER Chemact project, partly supported by the Institut Chevreul, the recycling theme has been identified as one of the research areas. The SPYCE project is thus integrated into this work and is linked to the PYROCAT joint team created on 1 September 2017. The general objective of the SPYCE project is to significantly improve the recyclability of polystyrene (PS)-based plastics from food packaging in order to avoid incineration or landfilling by developing a catalytic pyrolysis process using low-cost catalysts. This chemical recycling process aims to meet the need to create a new recycling channel for future PS flows linked to the extension of sorting instructions. Main partners in the project: Laboratoire Transformations Intégrées de la Matière Renouvelable (TIMR, UTC Compiègne), Triselec, Syndicat Mixte du Département de l'Oise (SMDO), NéoEco.
