Research Fellow in Artistic ResearchAt the Grieg Academy - Department of Music there is a vacancy for a PhD position (100 %) in artistic research within music performance and creative music practices. The appointment is for a fixed-term period of four years of which 25 per cent comprises required duties. The required duties may be in the form of teaching, exam work or supervision, according to the needs of the department.
About the project/work tasks:The PhD education is intended to qualify for artistic research of an international standard and for other work in society where great demands are made for artistic insight and competence in accordance with good academic practice and ethical standards.
The project must fall under the subject area of music performance and creative music practice. At the Grieg Academy this subject area covers a variety of musical genres. The Department offers study programmes with BA and MA with study courses including classical, jazz, traditional music and composition.
The project should have a clear focus in music performance, it can be cross- genre, or be situated in the interface of music performance and creative music practices.
For the strategic developments in the department, we are particularly interested in projects that can contribute to explore various and innovative methods for artistic/musical reflection, and that might contribute to renew formats of teaching in music performance and creative music practices.
Applications will be assessed considering the criteria in the Ph.D. program description as well as the artistic practise and research competence at the department. Project description:
The project description should place the project in a subject/research field, and present the theme, issues, context, method, and choice of work and presentation forms. The project description shall present the project's position in, and relevance to, the academic environment at the department, and account for the specific needs for professional and material resources, as well as any legal and ethical issues. You must disclose any potential collaborating institutions and cooperation partners. We also request a separate progress plan for different parts of the work. We encourage applicants to contact a potential supervisor in the department to consider the relevance of the project idea for the research environment and possibilities for supervision.
Qualifications and personal qualities:Emphasis will be placed on personal qualities/ Personal aptitude. Ambitions and potential will also be considered when assessing candidates.

About the research training: As a PhD candidate, you must participate in an approved educational programme for a PhD degree within a period of 3 years. A final plan for the implementation of the research training must be approved by the faculty within three months after you have started work in the position. It is a condition that you satisfy the enrolment requirements for the PhD programme at the University of Bergen.
At the Grieg Academy, the Ph.D. research fellows can also join the Grieg Research School of Interdisciplinary Music Studies, a research school that gathers research fellows from a broad landscape of music fields and disciplines.
The required work constitutes 25% of the position and can be structured as an integral part of the total employment period of 4 years.
The faculty will normally require residency.
