Research Associate with a doctorate (m/f/d) - Investigation of the aging, recycling and synthesis of polymer matrix composites

The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Your responsibilities include:
  • Independent scientific and innovative research in the field of structural or functional polymer matrix composites (PMCs), including, but not limited to, recyclable or self-healing PMCs
  • Characterization of the molecular structure and internal interfaces of heterogeneous polymer materials with respect to the description and prediction of degradation mechanisms as well as synthesis / formulation of new PMC systems
  • Independent execution of relevant tasks within the scope of new and already ongoing scientific projects
  • Independent acquisition of third-party funding projects
  • Presentation and publication of scientific results
  • Supervision of bachelor, master, and doctoral students
  • Cooperation with national and international partners
  • Your qualifications:
  • Successfully completed scientific universitiy degree in materials science, physics, chemistry, or a comparable discipline with a very good doctorate in material / natural sciences
  • Excellent knowledge in the field of polymer matrix composites with a focus on experimental analytics
  • Research experience in the field of experimental methods of polymer materials, preferably on the topics of aging, recycling, and/or synthesis
  • Confirmed excellent publication record in the relevant research field
  • Experience in acquisition and management of third party-funded projects and corresponding scientific project management
  • Ability to conduct independent scientific work
  • Experience in supervision of young scientists
  • Very good command of German and English
  • Goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative, ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate, willingness to learn as well as conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
