Research Associate (m/f/d) in the field of energy demand modeling

18.01.2023, Wissenschaftliches Personal

The Chair of Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems (ENS) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) is located at the TUM School of Engineering and Design and deals with the modeling of energy systems on different temporal and geographical scales. For our team we are looking for a Research Associate (m/f/d) starting immediately, in full-time – limited until the beginning of 2026.

Tasks:

  • Independent, scientific work on the project tasks
  • Coordination of the cooperation with the project partners
  • Publication of results in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at major international conferences
  • Contribution to the education of students and thus support our educational mission.
  • Research topic: For the planning of a future energy system, the estimates of the electricity, heating and cooling demands are a prerequisite to develop balanced strategies of increased energy efficiency measures and various energy supply options. Demand information can be derived from the building's geometry, the site and context and additional information like light emissions. The use of the So2Sat data offers unique methods to derive this information on a global scale and to monitor the development on a very frequent basis. The goal is to develop an automated demand estimate for each building in a city.

    Requirements:

  • Master's degree in engineering or science
  • Enthusiasm for scientific work and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Interest in developing new mathematical methods
  • Knowledge of the energy system in the urban environment, considering all sectors
  • Proficiency in Python, experience with other programming languages will be positively evaluated
  • Basic knowledge of neural networks is an advantage
  • Fluency in the English language (writing/speaking)
  • Independent, structured, and reliable work manner
  • We offer

  • An interesting and challenging job in an international and dynamic team at TUM's Garching site
  • Flexible working hours and individual opportunities for further training
  • Employment in accordance with the collective wage agreement for the civil service (TV-L E13)
  • Opportunity to pursue a doctorate within the framework of the work at the TUM
  • People with a severe disability will be given preferential treatment if their suitability and qualifications are essentially the same. TUM aims to increase the proportion of women, so applications from qualified women are expressly welcomed.
