Research assistant with possibility for PhD – Optimization of RailwayGrinding using Artificial Intelligence with Physical Models
100%, Zurich, fixed-termprint Drucken
The Institute of Machine Tools and Manufacturing (IWF) at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering performs international leading research on machine tools and in the field of production engineering. A further research focus is on novel topics such as additive manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Big Data Analysis or Industry 4.0. For a new industry related research project, we are looking for a new PhD.
Job descriptionRailway grinding as a High-Performance Dry Grinding process allows economically feasible production and advantages regarding energy efficiency, environmental pollution and workpiece surface quality. Considering these factors, high-performance grinding process used for railway grinding needs to be investigated as a promising technology to maintain the rail tracks. High relevance regarding both, scientific interests as well as industrial applications requires extensive experimental examination and understanding of this process. A physical model within an existing software environment needs to be developed to gain a profound process understanding. Artificial Intelligence (AI), combining the physical model, experimental results and Big Data generated by rail inspection train from SBB, needs to be used for a closed loop system with the detection of optimal process parameters for railway grinding.
