part-time employment may be possiblePhiltech/ the Berlin Ethics Lab (BEL) is looking for one PhD student. We bring philosophical reflection into a close working relationship with disciplines that develop and use emerging technologies to better understand their impact. As a bridge between philosophy and the technical sciences, our group's research unites two perspectives on the development and use of technologies. In theoretical philosophy, we investigate e.g. the methodology and dynamics of knowledge in design disciplines, the epistemology of human- machine-interaction resp. human-Al-interaction as well as the epistemology of interdisciplinarity. In practical philosophy, our group combines expertise in technology ethics with methods of technology assessment. In our research, we uncover the complex interrelationships between visions, values, design, and artifacts in order to reflect on and evaluate, from an ethical perspective, their impact on our living world. We develop and work with technology assessment methods that bring together stakeholders from research, art and society to pave the way for sustainable and responsible design of future technologies. Our working language is English and German. The successful candidates are expected to pursue a PhD project within the group's research profile, supervised by the director of the department.
