The group Laser Components and Fibres of the Institute of Quantum Optics invites applications for the position of a Research Assistant (PhD Candidate, m/f/d) regarding “nanoplasmonically functionalized optical fibre as flow reactor for sustainable photochemistry” (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 75 %) starting April 1, 2023. The position is limited to 4 years.

Responsibilities and duties

Responsibilities and duties include the research and development of an innovative optical glass (fused silica) fibre in the frame of an EU-funded research project with six international partners dedicated to sustainable photochemistry. The corresponding tasks include the numerical fibre design process, the fabrication of the fibre preform in a clean room and the fibre functionalization with nanoparticles for its application in a novel photochemical flow reactor concept.

Employment conditions

Applicants should have a completed scientific university degree (Master) in physics, chemistry, engineering sciences with an optics/nanoscience background or equivalent. Due to the internationality of the project and foreseen research exchanges, good English skills are required. Practical experiences with optical glass fiber technology are preferred. In addition, initial skills regarding the following disciplines are advantageous: chemical vapour deposition, optical metrology, Nanoplasmonics, photochemistry, numerical simulations (Comsol, Python etc.)

The university aims to promote equality between women and men. For this purpose, the university strives to reduce under-representation in areas where a certain gender is under-represented. Women are under-represented in the salary scale of the advertised position. Therefore, qualified women are encouraged to apply. Moreover, we welcome applications from qualified men.
