Your tasks
  • Conducting leading-edge research according to international standards in the field of strategic management, with a particular focus on digital platforms and ecosystems
  • Your research is expected to focus primarily on digital platforms and ecosystems in the financial sector. Potential research areas include (but are not limited to): How can established banks cope with increasing digitization and successfully design their own ecosystems? How do new digital offerings and FinTech companies affect existing players in the industry? How do new technologies such as blockchain affect the strategies of established firms in the financial sector?
  • Writing of scientific publications and participation in international conferences
  • Collaboration in company cooperations and research consortia
  • Support in teaching at bachelor, master and PhD level (assistance in courses; supervision of bachelor/master theses)
  • Candidates for this position are expected to enroll in the PhD program in Management at the University of St. Gallen, with the doctoral supervisors being Prof. Christoph Lechner and Prof. Tim Meyer
  • Your profile
  • Outstanding master's degree in business/management, economics or a related field from a leading university or business school
  • Strong interest in digital platforms and ecosystems
  • Strong analytical mindset and quantitative skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and aptitude to think about complex ideas
  • Previous research experience, especially with analyzing datasets, ideally in an academic environment
  • First practical experience in a profession closely related to strategic management
  • Organized, proactive and hands-on attitude towards work
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills in English (German is a plus)
  • The candidate will be affiliated with (and physically located primarily at) the Center for Financial Services Innovation (FSI-HSG), which develops know- how at the intersection of finance, management and law. The center focuses on interdisciplinary research in the areas of FinTech, sustainable finance, digital ecosystems and platform economies, regulation of financial services and markets, entrepreneurship, and private markets. The center also strives to further improve the education of HSG students in current topics of the financial industry and to foster cooperation between university and practice.

    The candidate will also collaborate closely with the Institute of Management and Strategy (IfB-HSG), which is the University of St.Gallen's primary institution for research, teaching and practice collaborations in the field of strategic management. The candidate will benefit from hands-on experience with research methods and opportunities to work closely with international partners from the world's leading academic institutions.
