The spreading of IoT technologies requires to set up a distributed platform, able to deal with scalability and interoperability issues and to securely manage the huge amount of transmitted data in real-time. Such a platform essentially represents a middleware layer, which can be designed starting from the emerging fog computing approach and can be integrated with a flexible policy enforcement framework based on Attribute-Based Encryption (ABE). The goal is to reduce bandwidth consumption and delay, producing faster responses, and guarantee security and privacy, for regulating a data-driven access to resources. Starting from such premises, the present proposal, named “Enforcing Security and Privacy at the Edge of the IoT network” (ESPE), concerns the design, development and validation of a cross-domain system to tackle the problem of efficient and secure data sharing in IoT. The solution aims at having a relevant impact in many every-day-life users' applications and industrial fields
