The Inria Rennes - Bretagne Atlantique Centre is one of Inria's eight centres and has more than thirty research teams. The Inria Center is a major and recognized player in the field of digital sciences. It is at the heart of a rich R&D and innovation ecosystem: highly innovative PMEs, large industrial groups, competitiveness clusters, research and higher education players, laboratories of excellence, technological research institute, etc.

We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to work on the CANofGAS Inria Exploratory Action led by Beniamino Accattoli (PARTOUT team, Inria Saclay) and Guilhem Jaber (Gallinette team, Inria Rennes).

This project aims at using the advances on reasonable cost models to develop a cost-based understanding of game semantics.

Call-by-need is a form of optimized evaluation of higher-order programs at the core of both the Haskell programming language and the Coq proof assistant, and which fits well into the theory of higher-order cost analyses. It lacks however a games semantics, which we would like to develop. In particular, capturing the optimized aspect of call-by-need via games might shed light on how games capture efficiency, or can be made more efficient.

The main tasks will be:

We seek candidates holding a PhD in Computer Science or Mathematics, and with expertise in programming language semantics, λ-calculi, type theory, functional programming, rewriting systems, category theory, or program logic.
