The post-doctoral contract will consist of the synthesis of monomers from biosourced synthons as well as their polymerization in order to develop this new generation of membranes.
The need for good quality water increases with the increase in world population. The membrane is at the heart of the filtration process allowing selective elimination of undesirable products such as bacteria or viruses in contaminated effluents. Until now, synthetic polymers have been preferred to natural polymers because of greater control over their production and their reputedly superior properties. The new deal is to reduce dependence on petroleum products and thus prepare for the post-oil era, as well as to help reduce long-term global warming by replacing petroleum derivatives with bio- based raw materials. The overall objective of this project is to develop a new generation of durable and porous polyimide filtration membranes with increased control of the life cycle, respectful of the environment and with performances at least comparable to the current standards of petroleum-based membranes.
This project will take place within the molecular and macromolecular chemistry (C3M) department of the Charles Gerhardt Institute in Montpellier (ICGM), a team specializing in polymer synthesis. This project will be done in collaboration with Prof. D. Quémener, leader of the ANR POMENVI project of the European Institute of Membranes (IEM).Eligibility criteria
