  • • Characterization/selection of ionomers • Preparation of bipolar membranes by different deposition techniques (casting, spray coating, electrospray, electrospinning) • Physico-chemical and electrochemical characterization of the materials developed (morphology, ionic conductivity, gas permeability, mechanical properties, dimensional stability) • Integration of selected bipolar membranes into membrane-electrode assemblies • Characterization in single-cell fuel cell • Writing of bibliographic reports and activity reports

    The objective of the project is to develop the use of bipolar membranes in fuel cells. The main activities concern the elaboration and the physicochemical and electrochemical characterization of nanostructured bipolar membranes, comprising an anion exchange polymer layer and a proton exchange polymer layer. These materials will be integrated into energy conversion devices and characterized for their performance and durability

    The Institut Charles Gerhardt de Montpellier (ICGM) UMR 5253 is one of the four Institutes of the Balard Chemistry pole. The Department of Materials Chemistry, Nanostructures, Materials for Energy brings together around 70 researchers and lecturer, doctoral students, and post-docs, who develop their research activities on materials and their mechanisms of action for energy by implementing expertise in chemistry and physico-chemistry of materials and interfaces, solid state and materials chemistry. The activity of the recruited person will be carried out within the "Energy Conversion" group, in connection with the group's activities on fuel cell and electrolyzer core materials, and within the framework of a collaboration with Michelin. Michelin is convinced that hydrogen mobility will be one of the essential components of clean mobility, complementary to the electric battery. But hydrogen goes well beyond mobility: it is a very promising solution to fight against CO2 emissions and air pollution: hydrogen is becoming a key vector for the energy transition.     Eligibility criteria

    • Skills in materials and polymers chemistry • Material characterization skills • Knowledge in preparation/characterization of polymer membranes • Knowledge of electrochemistry The candidate must be highly motivated and autonomous, possess knowledge of materials/polymer sciences and experience in the preparation and characterization of polymer membranes. Some knowledge of electrochemistry and fuel cell technology would be advantageous. Knowledge of French or English will be essential.
