  • While AI techniques are becoming ever more powerful, there is a growing concern about potential risks and abuses. As a result, there has been an increasing interest in research directions such as privacy-preserving machine learning, explainable machine learning, fairness and data protection legislation. Privacy-preserving machine learning aims at learning (and publishing or applying) a model from data while the data is not revealed. Notions such as (local) differential privacy and its generalizations allow to bound the amount of information revealed.

The overall goal of the HE TRUMPET project is to research and develop novel privacy enhancement methods for Federated Learning, and to deliver a highly scalable Federated AI service platform for researchers, that will enable AI- powered studies of siloed, multi-site, cross-domain, cross-border European datasets with privacy guarantees that exceed the requirements of GDPR.

INRIA's MAGNET team will contribute among others to tasks involving AI algorithms and architectures, federated Learning, privacy platforms, privacy measurement and metrics, privacy-enhancing technologies and applied cryptography

We are looking for skilled and motivated interns, PhD students, scientific programmers and post-doctoral researchers to reinforce the team who will work on this HE TRUMPET project. The recruited candidates will collaborate in a team, interact with other Magnet team members and other TRUMPET partners. More information can be found at https:// researchers.lille.inria.fr/jramon/projects/trumpet.html including project objectives and more detailed job descriptions and links to the application website.

    Eligibility criteria

Apart from the specified required qualifications, please note that the research lab is in a "secure zone" (ZRR) and the French ministry reserves the right to refuse candidates for national security reasons.

    Selection process
  • First, send a complete record via the website or by email, see https: // team.inria.fr/magnet/how-to-apply/.
  • Then, candidates satisfying the minimal requirements may be asked additional information by email
  • A selection of candidates will be invited for an interview. The interview may include a discussion of the offered position and the interests and skills of the candidate. For interns, PhD students and engineers the interview may include technical questions and tests to assess relevant skills. Interviews never last longer than 1 hour, candidates are asked to answer questions to the point and in the case of online interviews to ensure a stable connection.
  • A smaller selection of candidates is invited to a second interview. The agenda of such second interview is usually fixed in advance and may include further assessment of specific skills and/or discussion of more administrative matters such as timing and visa.
  • As long as there are candidates scoring sufficiently well in the selection and there is relevant budget available, candidates are recruited. It is possible that less or more candidates are hired than specified in the job ad, e.g., due to (un)availability of sufficiently strong candidates and optimization of funding.
  • Candidates not making the final selection may be considered for other open positions.
