Government as a Platform: Orchestrating stakeholders in crisis situations
through digital platforms
We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals for a PhD
position in the field of Information Systems, as part of the DIZH-funded
research project "Government as a Platform: Orchestrating Stakeholders in
Crisis Situations through Digital Platforms" (short description). In the
project, we take advantage of digital platforms and their principles to
improve the coordination and orchestration of relevant actors in the Canton of
Zurich on the example of the Ukraine refugee crisis. As a PhD student, you
will be supervised by Dr. Liudmila Zavolokina (Digital Society Initiative,
University of Zurich) and Prof. Dr. Gerhard Schwabe (Department of
Informatics, University of Zurich).
Your responsibilities
Conduct research in the area of digital platforms in the context of
eGovernment
Design and develop innovative prototypes for laboratory and field studies
Collect and analyze data, run experiments, and publish findings
Collaborate with researchers, public organizations, businesses, and other
institutions
Support teaching activities, such as running exercises and supervising
theses
Support the research project management activities
Assist in the preparation of research proposals for national and
international funding agencies
Your profile
We look forward to a creative and explorative team member with the following:
a master's degree in information systems, business informatics, computer
science, or a related field
strong analytical skills, enthusiasm for research, proactive mindset,
reliability, and commitment
good programming skills and experience in the implementation of software
prototypes (e.g., JAVA, Python) are desirable
good command of English and German since the project involves
collaboration with local organizations in the local language; knowledge of
Ukrainian or Russian is an advantage, since the project involves
interaction with Ukrainian refugees
Understanding of the Swiss political system works or relationship to
Switzerland (e.g., prior studies in Switzerland) are both advantageous
