The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities include:

Scientific activity within the scope of processing a research project in the field of hydrogen firing. The aim of the research project is to develop a fire test rig using hydrogen as an alternative energy source instead of the propane used at BAM. In addition, the focus of the work is to ensure that fire loads required by dangerous goods legislation can be introduced into the dangerous goods containers under consideration.Specific tasks include:

  • Processing of the research project as well as coordination with the project partners
  • Conception, planning and production of a test field with hydrogen firing
  • Preparation and application of measurement technology to record all relevant parameters
  • Conception, preparation and implementation of various fire tests using hydrogen or gas mixtures
  • Data evaluation and interpretation
  • Investigation and comparison to propane gas firing
  • Development of empirical and/or numerical models to describe the phenomena observed in the tests
  • Scientific publication and reporting within the scope of the research project
  • Presentation of work results at scientific conferences and project meetings
  • Your qualifications:
  • Successfully completed scientific university studies (master's degree, diploma) in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Process Engineering or a related STEM field
  • Very good knowledge in the field of thermodynamics
  • Good knowledge in the field of material properties and combustion
  • Willingness and aptitude for practical work on the fire test field to be developed
  • Very good knowledge of German and English, both written and spoken
  • Willingness to write reports and publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Knowledge or experience in the conceptual design and execution of experimental studies and the handling of measurement technology is an advantage
  • Good communication and information skills, initiative/willingness and ability to work in a team and cooperate, flexibility as well as conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
