The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities include:

PhD on the topic: Recycling of lithium iron phosphate batteries with focus on thermochemical processes. The aim of the PhD project is to develop and evaluate new process options for the recycling of LFP batteries. Specific tasks include:

  • Targeted investigation and development of routes aimed at the separate recovery of lithium, iron and phosphate as secondary raw materials for alternative sales markets.
  • Carrying out experimental investigations in the thermal technical centre and the laboratories of BAM
  • Use of modern analytical methods for the examination of the secondary raw materials produced and for process analysis
  • Comparison of the developed routes with existing recycling options, in particular the extraction of lithium iron phosphate for battery production using LCA methods
  • Cooperation with BOKU Vienna (LCA methods), other research institutions and the industry
  • Your qualifications:
  • Successfully completed scientific university studies (Master/ Diploma) in the field of chemistry, process engineering, environmental engineering or comparable
  • Knowledge in the field of material separation
  • Knowledge in the field of recycling
  • Experience in the field of thermal processes
  • Good command of English
  • Goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative/willingness and ability to work hard, ability to work in a Team/willingness to cooperate, willingness to learn and conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
