At the School of Innovation, Design and Engineering our students are studying to be for example innovators, entrepreneurs, illustrators, communications officers, network technicians and engineers. Here we have the research specialisations of Embedded Systems, and Innovation and Product Realisation. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with companies, organisations and public authorities in the region.

Position descriptionMälardalen University is recruiting a PhD student in Innovation & Design, with a focus on innovation management. Innovation and Design is a third-cycle subject area with an interdisciplinary approach to the development process from needs/problems to usable solutions, with a profile towards sustainable future development and industrial innovation. Examples of applications are communication and information processes, quality development, management of innovation collaboration between different actors, and also the development and operation of sustainable production systems and their interfaces towards product development. One of the goals is by means of co-production to contribute knowledge of development processes and/or by developing methods, approaches and prerequisites to carry out improvements within the chosen application.
As our new PhD student, you are a part of a larger group shaping the future of the dynamic and interdisciplinary research and education environment innovation and product realization (IPR), which provides good opportunities for conducting interdisciplinary research. Digital transformation and innovation constitute a future common focus within IPR, where both research and teaching take place largely in co-production with external parties.
The position as PhD student is placed at the division innovation management, which is responsible for research and education in the field of innovation management (undergraduate level) and the subject innovation & design (graduate and postgraduate education level). Innovation management consists of a number of competence areas within which the division conducts research and education: Entrepreneurship, Managing innovation, Creativity, Service Innovation and Foresight.
The position as a PhD student may also include a certain part of institutional service, which may include teaching and administration within undergradute education in innovation management as well as innovation and design.
QualificationsOnly those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. For futher information see Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).
For specific entry requirements for third-cycle studies in the subject of Innovation and Design, a degree or 60 credits at second-cycle level within the main field of study/subject, relevant to the specific third-cycle project, is required. Students with equivalent prior knowledge also fulfil the specific entry requirements.
For the position, very good knowledge of spoken and written English is required.
In addition to documents that strengthen your eligibility for the position as PhD student in innovation and design, you shall also submit a "Research proposal".
