Peter Vulcan Scholarship: The Peter Vulcan Scholarship is named after one of the most distinguished road safety scholars in Australia, with a career spanning over 40 years. Professor Vulcan AM was Founding Director of MUARC until his retirement in 1998, which equated to 11 years of outstanding service. He was previously the Chairman of the Road Safety and Traffic Authority, Commonwealth Department of Transport.
The scholarship was established in 2001 and was first awarded to Ben Brooks, whose doctoral thesis aimed to develop an online tool to assist small businesses with Occupational Health & Safety. Dr Brooks went on to become a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Tasmania and has also held professional safety management positions in state government.
