Hired at CNRS, the candidate will work in Poitiers, within the Institute of Chemistry of Milieux and Materials of Poitiers IC2MP UMR 7285 CNRS University of Poitiers on a strategic subject of the energy transition within the European project ELOBIO which involves several partners. The research developed at the IC2MP is part of a global eco-design approach (see: https: // ic2mp.labo.univ-poitiers.fr/) which includes the design and development of active materials for energy conversion and storage. The IC2MP has the working environment (research team, equipment, platform, etc...) for the success of this mission which involves researchers from two teams MEDIACAT and SAMCat in a consortium of several French laboratories. The candidate will be registered at the doctoral school Théodore Monod ED n°614 (University of Poitiers). He/she will work under the supervision of 2 researcher and professor of the MEDIACAT and SAMCat teams.
Green hydrogen will play a major role in the future decarbonized energy systems. The most promising technology for the green hydrogen production is the water electrolysis which consists to break water molecule into H2 and O2 using only renewable electricity in an electrochemical cell. However, the water electrolysis is energy demanding due thermodynamic and kinetic limitations. The ELOBIO project (an european project) targets to develop electrolysers capable of simultaneously producing pure green H2 and value- added decarbonized chemicals from renewable lignocellulosic biomass including lignocellulosic from wood/forestry and residues from agriculture, with low energy input. The PhD candidate who will be hired at IC2MP will develop critical metal free anode for selectively oxidizing glucose and xylose. The PhD candidate will have for essential mission the synthesis and the physicochemical and electrochemical characterizations of nanomaterials used as catalysts for this reaction.
Additional comments- Solid experience in the synthesis of materials for electrocatalytic reactions, Assessment of kinetic parameters mainly that of oxidation of organic compounds. - Skills in electrochemical characterization - Preparation of catalytic ink for electrodes - Solid skills in writing and oral communication in english
