The department of modern history at University of Tübingen invites applications for a position as
doctoral researcher / PhD candidate (f/m/d)
to be employed from the earliest possible date. The position is available for three years , with a possible extension for another year. The salary will be established according to the German E13 TV-L scale for public sector employees (and equals 60 percent of a lecturer's salary).
Duties:
The position includes teaching duties (one course per semester, at two hours per week), collaboration in the department's research activities and occasional administrative tasks. The successful candidate will pursue an original research project of their own design in modern European or global history (PhD project).
Conditions of employment:
The successful candidate holds an excellent master's degree (or an equivalent qualification) in history or a neighboring historical discipline, with a focus on modern history and a strong interest in global history. Engagement with research questions across historical periods and disciplinary boundaries is desirable, as is the ability to work in a team. Fluency in English is required. If the candidate has no knowledge of German, we expect they acquire the ability to participate in the department's meetings and events, with German as one working language, within the first two years. Further required language skills are dependent on the research project pursued. Courses can be taught in English and German.
